I grew up most of my life in the greater Seattle area. Our family moved when I was in 5th grade to Amsterdam, The Netherlands for a year. There I attended the International School of Amsterdam and I absolutely loved it. I made friends from all over the world, learned how to speak some Dutch and ride my bike around the city. In 6th grade we moved to southern California for 2 years and I moved back to Washington in 8th grade.
Moving around so much has given me an appreciation for other families that have moved and the challenges that come from it. I also have a great empathy for families living in a foreign country and learning a new language. When I was 16 years old, I spent a summer as an exchange student in Rieti, Italy and lived with an Italian family who didn't speak English. It was difficult, but so rewarding to see growth as I took risks to practice. My experiences and background had a huge impact on my decision to enter education and to be an English Language Learning (ELL) teacher. I want to help students gain confidence to take risks and to see their own background as a positive asset at school and in life. Washington State University- Bachelor's in Education
University of Washington- Master's in Education & Endorsement in English Language Learning My student teaching was done at an American Military Base in Bamberg, Germany through the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS). I taught in a 2nd grade classroom.
I accepted a job teaching part-time Kindergarten at Discovery Elementary in Sammamish, WA with the Issaquah School District. After one year in Kindergarten, I moved up to 1st grade for the last 5 years. I took a leave of absence in 2018-2019 to do a volunteer service trip called the World Race. We traveled as a group to 11 countries in 11 months: Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Lesotho, Swaziland/E'swatini, South Africa, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. While abroad, I accepted a job to become an English Language Learning (ELL) teacher at Apollo Elementary. I'm excited for this new opportunity! In my time off I like to spend time with my family and friends. I really enjoy traveling, being outside in nature, staying active, and using creativity. Baking is a fun hobby and I'm learning how to watercolor.
